Iris House is here to offer support to families who have children with life-threatening or complex healthcare needs between the ages of 0 and 18.
Iris House operates a strong non-discriminatory policy and welcomes referrals from all ethnic, cultural and sexual orientational backgrounds.
We help our children and young people make the most of the time they have, providing the opportunity for play and recreational activities and offering assistance to parents and siblings.
All our services are completely free to families.
The expert care and support offered at Iris House can also be provided in the community, such as a family's own home or school.
What we do...
A team of care assistants are able to offer care, crisis intervention and sibling support. This is offered to families in their own environment enabling family life to continue as near to normal as possible. The care team can offer sits in the familys own home for up to four hours at a time.
If the child has reached the end-of-life stage, the team will endeavour to support the family on a daily basis, with 24-hour on-call support at home.
Family Support...
We recognise the enormous strain and everyday stresses that caring for a child with a life-limiting condition may place on a family. We are able to provide emotional and practical support to all family members, from counseling to sibling support groups.
What we need...
We are currently looking for donations of items for our carers home visit packs and play boxes. Our aim is to not just fully train our carers, but also to ensure they go out to the community fully equipped. We aim to have two kits per carer. We don’t want our parents to worry about a thing when an Iris House carer pays a visit to their home and to this end we need to provide our carers with the basics to do their jobs safely and effectively, always being mindful of hygiene and infection control.
