The holiday season is fast approaching, and for some there will be fun and laughter in the sun with their children, trips to the beach, maybe even a trip up Table Mountain. It’s a time of love, caring and giving. Unfortunately life is not this care free for the families of special needs children.

Every day has to be extremely well planned. Mornings can start as early as 4am, there is an endless list of medications to administer, feeds to prepare and the constant dread of seizures. Trips to the hospital are common as these children are extremely prone to infection and their conditions can changed dramatically in a very short space of time.

 Mom’s, Dad’s and siblings are all involved in a special needs child’s care regime as are extended family The physical, financial and emotional strain leave Mom and Dad exhausted. This is were Iris House makes a difference. We offer families home community sits. Qualified carers who understand their children's complex medical and personal needs are sent to the home at no charge to the family. For a precious four hours parents can truly relax, knowing their loved ones are in good hands.

We are appealing to the public and companies to support Iris House this holiday season by donating new or used toys, children's dvds, cd’s and books. We will use new items for our registered children, used items will be put to good use on our Tombola Stand at our next Family Fun Day in February. Cash donations are also very welcome and can be made via our Payfast button on our website home page or by EFT to our bank account.
